One-line review: If you like fiction but also like snark, you’ll like this podcast.
Brought to us regularly by Chris (The Smart One), Ezra (The Funny One) and Alex (The One That Knows Web Design), Read it and Weep is a podcast where a small band of intrepid guys suffer through terrible books and movies to review (and revile) them for our edification and entertainment.
I haven’t listened to all of the episodes yet, but so far I’ve really enjoyed this series. Given my love of bitchiness and hating on Twilight and anything by Nicholas Sparks, some might say it’s a natural fit with my tastes.
Check it out and let me know what you think. I suggest starting with their episodes on The Notebook, which provided me with further proof that I don’t need to go anywhere near that book or movie.

The Tobolowsky Files is a gem and should be listened to by anyone who loves cinema. Wait, scratch that, it should be listened to by anyone who loves a good story.
I stumbled on this podcast not too long after I started following /film‘s site. As David Chen says at the beginning of each episode, it’s a series where character actor Stephen Tobolowsky talks about life, love and cinema (I’m sure I got that a bit wrong, but you get the idea). And that’s really what it is.
Stephen Tobolowsky is one of those “hey, it’s that guy!” kind of actors–with 199 acting credits up to now on IMDB, chances are good you’ve seen him in something. In these podcasts he talks a lot about his life, his family, past girlfriends, drug experiences, moving to Hollywood. Some of the best stories are the ones that pull back the curtain on filmmaking. Expect some big names to show up like Alan Parker and Sir Ian McKellen.
The project grew out of a film he put out in 2006 called Stephen Tobolowsky’s Birthday Party. I haven’t seen it yet (emphasis on the word “yet”), but if it’s anything like the podcast it’s excellent. The 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes doesn’t hurt either.
Give it a try, and if you like what you hear, drop him an email. He’ll get back to you. He’s just as nice over email as he is over the podcast.

Tank Riot is one of my all-time favourite podcasts. Helmed by Viktor, Sputnik and Tor, it covers a wide range of topics from film to politics to conspiracy theories. They don’t always stay on topic, but it’s always interesting.
Their first podcast I listened to was on the Studio Ghibli‘s catalogue of films. That sent me on a two-week Ghibli filmfest and I loved it. Now I’m listening to their recent Joe McCarthy podcast (part of their Great Douchebags in History series) and it’s great too. I had a hard time getting into their X-Men 3 review, but only because they liked the movie and I hated it.
I’m still catching up and probably will be for a long time but if you’re looking for a smart, funny podcast that covers a lot of topics, definitely grab this one.
