Reading, watching, listening, cooking.

This blog is the brain dump/link dump/home of book and movie reviews of Tara Scott. A former English major, she’s currently in marketing communications, proving it’s possible to have 2 degrees in English and still have a job that isn’t teaching or retail.

Tara is married to William Neil Scott, local author who writes about places that are and aren’t real in stories that are true and totally made up. They live in Calgary, Alberta with Bartleby, the king of the mini schnauzers, and Zadie, a princess among the schnoodles.

About Versus Boredom

This site grew out of a challenge. In 2005, George W Bush read 95 books (it’s been claimed). In 2010 Tara and Neil joined a group of intrepid readers who agreed to read at least that many and began contributing reviews to the 95 books tumblog. Around the same time Tara was also posting a lot of links to Facebook of Stuff. Everyone. Needs. To. Know. After a little push and a lot of help from Rhett, she started this blog.

This is a place for sharing some of those links everyone needs to know about, but mostly she’ll be sharing thoughts on some of the books, games, tv shows, movies and music she’s consuming, plus the occasional note about something going on around Calgary.

Amazon Ads

Why are there ads and links to Amazon.com and Amazon.ca? Because I’m hoping you’ll click on them and buy something. Yes, I’ll make a cut, but I’ll also put that money right back into purchases at those sites that I’ll then review later on. Also, I spend more money on Amazon.ca than anywhere else so I’m a believer in their service and hope you will be too.

Other Affiliate Stuff

I can’t make themes, but the good people over at Themeforest can (disclosure: I’m currently using a free template, but I’ve bought four from Themeforest in the past). If you’re looking for a theme for your site, maybe wander over there and check it out.

Also, if you’re looking for a good, carbon-neutral hosting service, I suggest Dreamhost. If you click this link or sign up with the bonus code VERSUSBOREDOM, you’ll get 50% off your hosting costs.
